E-HEALTH: DIGITAL SOLUTIONS IN HEALTHCARE AND LONG-TERM CARE.

E-health is considered a key tool in the EU in the following areas:

  • increasing the efficiency of healthcare,

  • improving the quality of care services,

  • expanding equitable access to services,

  • enabling citizens to actively participate in their own healthcare,

  • supporting healthcare professionals in their daily work.

Access to health data is currently uneven across the EU. Healthcare providers and institutions collect and store it in different formats, making it difficult for individuals and professionals to access and share it. Due to this lack of interoperability:

  • patients have limited access to their health data,

  • healthcare professionals experience delays in accessing complete medical histories, particularly for patients from abroad,

  • researchers and policymakers have limited access to anonymized health data for research, innovation, and policymaking, which hinders progress in healthcare.
